Atlas Renewable Energy, the Latin American renewable energy company, has commissioned around 600 MW of solar PV capacity in Brazil. It is contracted under long-term agreements with Unipar and Anglo American.
The 239 MW Lar do Sol Solar Plant is designed to generate 540 GWh/year. Chlorine and soda manufacturer Unipar has signed up to receive power generated from the project for 19 years. Banco do Nordeste do Brasil (BNB) has loaned BRL 407 million for this facility.
Solar power from this project will be supplied to Unipar's Cubatão chlorine plant that's used to treat the water that supplies more than 60 million people under the power purchase agreement (PPA) signed in July 2021 (see Latin America PV Snippets: Scatec, Atlas, Shell, XM).
Another 15-year PPA between Atlas and the mining group Anglo American for the 359 MW Casablanca Solar Plant will see the latter sourcing 820 GWh/year from the project equipped with more than 800,000 bifacial modules.
"The signing of this contract has helped Anglo American achieve a 100% renewable electricity matrix in its projects in Brazil – a milestone the company recently reached," stated Atlas. The Casablanca project is financed with $150 million loan from IDB Invest.
Both the projects are located in the Pirapora region of Minas Gerais and will generate over 1.2 GWh clean energy/year.
These 2 projects take the corporate world-focused renewable energy company Atlas' total operational capacity to 2.2 GW out of the 4 GW contracted projects in the Americas.
