Norsk Solar signs up for 18 MW solar in Brazil; Sonnedix has energized its 10.5 MW solar farm in Chile; Colombian Air Force Base gets solar power plant for self-consumption.

Solar PPA for 18 MW signed in Brazil: Norsk Solar has executed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Origo Energia for 6 solar PV plants with 18 MW of combined capacity in Brazil. Previously, the duo signed PPA for 6 MW in Q4/2021. Both the PPAs are part of a 37 MW development agreement between the 2. This 37 MW capacity is to be built for NOK 400 million in Minais Gerais state as 12 projects. Construction is due to begin in mid-2022. GD Solar is in charge of development and construction of the said capacity. Norsk Solar said it will supply up to 2,000,000 MWh of clean electricity over the lifetime of the plants that are planned as part of the Órigo Energia development agreement.

10.5 MW solar plant online in Chile: Sonnedix has launched commercial operations of its 10.5 MW Sonnedix Taranto Solar Project in Chile. CAF Turnkey & Engineering was the EPC contractor of the facility that's located in the country's Valparaíso region. It is expected to generate 21,648 MWh of clean energy annually during the 1st year of operation. It has now over 244 MW of operational solar capacity in Chile, another 160 MW under construction and more than 1 GW of development pipeline.

1.2 MW solar plant for Colombian Air Force: The Government of Colombia inaugurated a 1.2 MW solar power plant at the Palanquero Air Force Base. Equipped with 2,340 solar panels, the facility in Cundinamarca will account for 24% of the base's energy consumption. The base will be able to save more than $64 million per month with the help of this plant installed by EPM. Enthused by the development, the government plans to replicate the project for Air Commands 5 and 3 in Rionegro and Malambo, respectively. On the occasion, the Colombian Ministry of Mines and Energy said the national installed capacity of renewables currently stands at 725.38 MW.

On the whole, the ministry said Colombia has 20 solar farms, 2 wind farms, 10 large-scale self-consumption projects and more than 2,500 small-scale self-consumption solar projects at present. The government aims to install more than 1.5 GW renewable capacity and bring online another 900 MW currently under construction by the end of 2022.
