The cumulative installed PV capacity in Malaysia financed by its feed-in tariff (FiT) program has reached 295.54 MW end of 2016. With this, solar PV leads all renewable energy sources with highest capacity installed under FiT.
In 2016, the country installed 32.46 MW of solar PV capacity under the FiT mechanism. In the previous year, the installation activity amounted to a total of 60.14 MW, according to the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia.
Total renewable energy capacity of the country reached 459.14 MW end of 2016. This also includes 2.40 MW installed in the Biogas (landfill/agri waste) category.
Malaysia had introduced the FiT mechanism for a period of five years beginning 2012. It is set to end in 2017.
Recently, the government launched the second round of its Large Scale Solar PV Plant Tender (see Malaysia Launches 460 MW PV Tender). Results for the first round were announced in January 2017 (see Malaysia Awards Over 450 MW PV Capacity).
