The Maltese Ministry for Energy and Water Management has launched a tender for solar PV installations with capacity of 1 MW or more. Total capacity on offer is 35 MW which will be contracted for a period of 20 years.
Final tariffs for various installation categories can range from €0.108 to €0.153 ($0.13 to $0.18) per kWh.
Lowest bids offered will be ranked first. The entire capacity may be awarded to a single bidder or more than one. Draw of lots will be used to award capacity for two or more bids submitted at the same price.
Installation sites include quarries, official disused landfills, industrial land and roof tops, car parks, land under government concession, and others.
The ministry will hold a clarification meeting on August 29, 2018. Sealed bids will be accepted till October 26, 2018. Further information is available on the website of the ministry.
This is the second call for tenders in this category. Previously, the Maltese energy ministry launched the first tender for 1 MW capacity or more in November 2017, with a total of 15 MW on offer. Final winners were announced in May 2018 winning a combined capacity of 12.89 MW. The lowest bid received in that tender was €0.128 ($0.15) per kWh.
Malta has called for these tenders under its Support Scheme for Large Scale Renewable Energy Installations which is valid till December 31, 2020.
