For 900 MW phase VI of the world's largest planned single site solar project, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park (MBR Solar Park), the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has received 4 bids from unidentified international companies for consultancy contract.
In a brief statement, DEWA did not share any more details about the 900 MW phase or the companies that have bid for the same.
"The current production capacity of the Solar Park is 1,627 MW using photovoltaic solar panels. DEWA is implementing other projects at the Solar Park with a total capacity of 1,233 MW using photovoltaic solar panels and concentrated solar power (CSP) technologies, which raises the share of clean energy production within Dubai's energy mix to 11.5%. This is expected to reach 14.0% by the end of this year," said DEWA's MD and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer.
MBR Solar Park is to have an installed solar power capacity of 5 GW by 2030 and so far initial 3 phases have come online, as 13 MW, 200 MW and 800 MW respectively. Under phase IV, 950 MW is planned to come online comprising 700 MW CSP and 250 MW solar PV. Builder of phase IV, ACWA Power plans to bring it online in stages.
Phase V of the project also has 900 MW solar PV capacity out of which 300 MW was inaugurated in August 2021 as phase A by project winners ACWA Power, Gulf Investment Corporation and Shanghai Electric. Recently, Shanghai Electric announced bringing online phase B of phase V without disclosing the capacity. It added that work on phase C is well underway and is expected to complete in 2023.
