Moldova’s 1st large-scale renewable energy tender allocates the entire 165 MW capacity
A total of 6 winning bids were selected out of the 24 received for 60 MW solar PV capacity
Wind energy secured 105 MW with higher tariffs compared to those selected for solar
Moldova’s maiden renewable energy auction for large-scale capacity concluded recently, with the Ministry of Energy awarding the entire 165 MW on offer to the winners for solar PV and onshore wind projects.
It received 24 bids for solar PV projects, out of which 6 were selected as winners of the combined 60 MW capacity. Among the winners is KKK Invest SRL, which will build a 5.7 MW solar project for MDL 1.1399 ($0.067)/kWh.
The remaining 54.3 MW PV capacity was won by Lumina Noastră SRL for its 5 solar parks for the following winning bids:
MDL 1.1398 ($0.067)/kWh for 4.8 MW
MDL 1.1455 ($0.067)/kWh for 6 MW
MDL 1.1456 ($0.67)/kWh for 12 MW
MDL 1.1899 ($0.070)/kWh for 24 MW, and
MDL 1.1900 ($0.070)/kWh for 7.5 MW.
Wind energy projects won the entire 105 MW reserved for this segment in the auction for slightly higher winning bids, ranging from MDL 1.2498 to MDL 1.4298 ($0.073 to $0.084)/kWh. Lumina Noastră SRL secured 65 MW of the total wind capacity, followed by Navitas Energy winning 12.5 MW, and Windnova SRL 27.5 MW.
Tariffs for this round were capped at MDL 1.67 ($0.095)/kWh for solar PV, and MDL 1.5 ($0.086)/kWh for onshore wind, but the winning bids are lower for both the technologies (see 165 MW Onshore Wind & Solar PV For Moldova’s 1st Renewable Energy Tender).
Winners will sell the clean electricity to the state energy supplier Energocom for 15 years post commissioning at the winning bids determined in the auction. They have 36 months to install and commission the projects.
Moldova’s Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu said, “These auctions will bring direct investments of 200 million euros in the next three years. We are also pleased that we have good potential among local investors, who came with attractive offers at these auctions.”
To meet the country’s goal of achieving 30% renewable energy in its total consumption by 2030, Moldova plans to follow up with another tender round in October 2025. It will seek up to 173 MW of wind farm capacity and add up to 22 MW of storage solutions for the 1st time.
