MoUs & LOIs For 90 GW+ RE In Rajasthan

• Rajasthan has entered LOIs and MoUs for over 90 GW renewable energy capacity
• It includes commitment from Axis Energy Group for 28 GW solar park, solar projects and 4 GW solar module manufacturing
• SJVN has evinced interest in establishing 10 GW solar project capacity, while Sukhveer Agro Group will develop 2 GW solar park/projects
• Reliance has committed for 20 GW capacity which a PTI report identifies as using solar technology
• State government will facilitate land availability, along with offering infrastructural and policy support

India's Rajasthan has signed letters of intent (LOI) and memorandums of understanding (MoU) worth INR 3.05 trillion for more than 90 GW of renewable energy capacity to be established in the state through 5 public sector companies and several private entities.

According to the State Government of Rajasthan, the commitments are for renewable energy projects/parks and related manufacturing. However, some of the specific commitments for solar have come from Hyderabad based solar and wind energy developer Axis Energy Group for 28 GW solar park, solar projects and 4 GW solar module manufacturing worth INR 37,000 crore, state owned hydro power company SJVN Limited for 10 GW solar power capacity worth INR 50,000 crore, and Sukhveer Agro Group for 2 GW solar park/projects and 100 MW biomass for INR 9,000 crore.

SJVN said these projects will enable it in the achievement of its overarching target of 5 GW installed capacity by 2023, 25 GW by 2030 and 50 GW by 2040. "The commercial production will commence in a phased manner and the power generated will be transmitted to the beneficiaries through nearest sub-stations. Power Purchase Agreements for the generated energy will be signed through competitive tariff-based opportunities available in the market," it added.

Other commitments for renewable energy secured by the government include the following:

• Reliance Group will invest INR 1 trillion for 20 GW capacity, which the Press Trust of India (PTI) reported will be all for solar power generation.
• State owned electricity utility NTPC will set up 10 GW renewable energy capacity worth INR 40,000 crore.
• Hydro power giant NHPC Ltd will set up another 10 GW capacity for INR 20,000 crore.
• THDC India Limited to establish 10 GW capacity for an investment of INR 40,000 crore.
• Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) to invest INR 9,000 crore for 2 GW capacity.

In lieu of these commitments signed with Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited (RRECL), the government will facilitate land availability, while extending related infrastructural and policy support. The Minister of State for Energy Bhanwar Singh Bhati said that the state has more than 1.60 lakh hectares of suitable land for solar energy in various districts of western Rajasthan, where solar parks are being set up.

State Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said, "We are making efforts to develop Rajasthan as the manufacturing hub of solar equipment and wish that investors also show their interest in investing. The State Government will extend full cooperation."

The MoUs and LOIs signed will be implemented on the ground in time bound manner, said the state government.
