Netherlands Installed Over 1 GW PV In 2018

Finally, Holland has become a gigawatt-scale solar market: As per the assessment of Polder PV, Netherlands’ solar PV additions in 2018 reached 1.3 GW to 1.5 GW, after the country added around 768 MW in 2017.

Netherlands may have connected to the grid around 1.3 GW to 1.5 GW of new solar PV capacity in 2018, taking the country's cumulative installed solar power capacity to over 4 GW at the end of 2018, according to estimates of Peter Segaar who runs Dutch solar news portal Polder PV.

According to his analysis, large scale solar power projects registered with state-run company Certiq that issues guarantees of origins (GOs) for renewable energy production, grew to 1,523 MW at the end of 2018. In December alone, 125.5 MW was certified in the form of 189 new solar projects.

In 2017, Netherlands installed 700 MW solar PV capacity according to the Centrall Buraeu voor de Statistiek (CBS), which took its cumulative to 2.7 GW. The estimate of Dutch commercial platform company Solar Solutions was higher – it said last year that 2017 additions added up to 853 MW (see Netherlands' Cumulative PV Capacity Hits 2.7 GW). Segaar believes 2017 installations totalled 768 MW, resulting in a cumulative capacity of 2,903 MW.
