The Rural Electrification Agency of Nigeria is looking for a consultancy firm to conduct feasibility study, design a masterplan and geotechnical survey for the development of a 1 GW Solar IPP Procurement Programme. It will include both solar PV as well as concentrated solar power to come up in Gwiwa, Jigawa state in Nigeria.

The agency has issued an expression of interest (EoI) to select a consultancy firm that will be expected to complete the work within 9 months.

Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trader Plc will be the sole offtaker of all power generated from the 1 GW capacity, which will be wheeled through a 330 kV or 132 kV line to be constructed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria to the nearest load point.

The Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA), hosted at the African Development Bank (AfDB), is funding the entire program.

Last date to submit EoI is September 20, 2018. More details are available on the website of AfDB.

In May 2018, AfDB approved a $1.5 million SEFA grant for Phase-I of the program. Basis the outcome of the feasibility study by the selected consultant, AfDB may offer additional support to the country in the form of funding of a transaction advisor to design and launch the IPP procurement program (see AfDB Approves $1.5mn For Nigeria PV Program).
