Nippon Energy has announced a solar module manufacturing plant in Dubai
With 1 GW annual production capacity planned, it will use HJT technology
The company says it has acquired a state-of-the-art manufacturing unit for the purpose
Japanese solar EPC company Nippon Energy has announced plans to launch a solar module manufacturing factory in Dubai with 1 GW annual production capacity. This will roll out heterojunction (HJT) solar panels.
It recently acquired a state-of-the-art solar panel manufacturing unit in Dubai that it said was originally established in 2016. The company has not shared any more details about the project.
Based out of Tokyo, Japan Nippon Energy provides solar power solutions to residential, commercial and industrial projects with wide presence in the UAE and Pakistan markets. In the UAE market, it also provides CapEx and leasing solutions.
Announcing the 1 GW module factory on its social media, Nippon Energy said this project aligns with the UAE’s vision and the COP28 initiative. “This project demonstrates Nippon's strong commitment to sustainability and its dedication to supporting the UAE's long-term environmental goals,” it adds.
Back in 2018, Maysun Solar was touted as the 1st solar panel producer to have set up a manufacturing factory in Dubai’s Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) with 40 MW annual capacity which it later reportedly expanded to up to 200 MW annually.
Solar PV manufacturers from the East are exploring the Middle East region as it sees the rise of large-scale solar power plants. Dubai’s Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is itself going to sport over 7 GW of installed capacity on completion (see Dubai’s DEWA Launches MBR Solar Park Phase VII Tender). The Middle East also offers a strategic advantage as a gateway to markets in Africa, Europe and Asia.
