Oman Power and Water Procurement Company SAOC (OPWP) has issued a request for proposal (RFP) documents seeking advisory services for a solar power plant. In an official announcement, OPWP has only mentioned that legal advisory services are required for 'competitive tendering of a commercial scale solar power plant to be connected to the Main Interconnected System in Oman (MIS)'.

The RFP for legal advisory services follows on an RFP published in May 2017 for financial and commercial advisory services for the project.

The government is expected to issue the RFP for the country's first large scale solar independent power project by Q4/2017. The 200 MW project is estimated to start operations by 2020, as per a recent report in Oman Daily Observer.

Oman had been working to promote the use of rooftop solar in the country, and had commissioned a study under the Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW) in 2016 (see Oman Exploring Solar Rooftops). This pointed at a 1.4 GW potential for solar power through rooftops across the nation.

RFP documents can be purchased from the offices of OPWP in Muscat from June 4, 2017 until June 18, 2017. Bid submission deadline is July 24, 2017.
