At the end of 2019, Norway's cumulative installed solar power capacity reached around 120 MW of which 51.4 MW was deployed in 2019. With this, says Norwegian solar industry association Solenergiklyngen, the Nordic country has reported a new annual record and eightfold growth since the end of 2015.
Of the total installed in 2019, close to 60% came from the commercial and industrial (C&I) segment and 35% was installed by private households. Off grid capacity addition was 2 MW while BIPV numbers added up to 1.1 MW.
Even though the 51 MW looks minuscule compared to several other European nations, for Norway it is a big deal since in 2018 the country installed 23.5 MW, and the year before it added 18.2 MW. Over the past 4 years, Norway has increased its total PV capacity from 3 MW to over 100 MW and the grid connected PV capacity has gone up more than 30 times the size of 2015.
In the Multiconsult commissioned study, Solenergiklyngen said COVID-19 related problems in the space of logistics and planning will negatively impact the market in 2020.
