Portugal's Minister of Environment and Climate Action (MAAC), João Pedro Matos Fernandes has said his department is in receipt of 35 applications in response to the country's second solar auction call for 700 MW capacity. Without divulging too many details, the minister said the tender has been oversubscribed by 10 times the original capacity, as per a report by Jornal Economico.
Galamba was speaking at the commissioning of a self-consumption plant, and shared that the pre-qualification round has ended for the 700 MW auction. Out of 10 lots tendered, 9 lots have proposed an energy storage component.
After some delay, Portugal launched its 2nd solar auction offering 700 MW capacity in June 2020 with the last date to submit bids being July 31, 2020. It was divided into 12 projects of various capacities ranging between 10 MW to 109 MW. Final bidding is scheduled to be held on August 24 & 25, 2020 (see Portugal Launches Country's Second Solar Auction).
