The Japanese partnership of ENEOS Corporation and Sojitz Corporation have commissioned their 1st large scale solar power plant in Australia with 204 MW DC installed capacity in Queensland.

Commissioned by Sapphire Energy Pty Ltd, a 50:50 joint venture between the energy trader Sojitz and oil refiner ENEOS, the Edenvale Solar Park is the 'largest' solar project in the country to have been undertaken by Japanese companies, the duo stated.

Sojitz will supply a portion of the energy produced by the plant to Gregory Crinum Coking Coal Mine in Queensland used for steelmaking. It is owned by Sojitz.

The project had been under construction since June 2021 on 428 hectares of land and came online in September 2023. It is equipped with close to 400,000 solar panels in the Western Downs region. According to the project website, the facility will be operated and maintained by Gransolar Group.

Both the partners plan to further develop renewable energy projects in Australia in the future.
