  • Argentinian government plans to hold the tender for round 4 of its RenovAr program before the end of 2019, reported Telam Agency
  • Investment in transmission network infrastructure will be a part of the new tender requirements
  • It will be done with a view to encourage greater deployment of renewable energy in the country

Argentina has decided it will launch round 4 of its RenovAr program before the end of the year 2019, reported Argentine news agency Telam. The country's Undersecretary of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Sebastian Kind disclosed this information while speaking at an event organized by the Global Wind Energy Council.

The new tender will include investments in infrastructure for transmission network. Kind said the government is actively working for the development of the round 4 tender. Investment in transmission network will encourage greater deployment of renewable energy in the country, he added. However, no exact timeline or capacity allocation for participating technologies is still known.

Under the country's renewable energy electricity program RenovAr, Argentina has so far held rounds 1, 1.5 and 2. In September 2018, it launched round 3 offering 400 MW in total, with 350 MW reserved for wind and solar to compete for. It calls the tender round MiniRen because it will connect the allocated capacity to medium voltage networks (see Argentina's RenovAr Round 3 Launch In Oct 2018).
