  • Roltec has started the construction of its CIGS solar module production factory in Poland

  • It is scheduled to start commercial operations on site in Wrocław by the end of 2025

  • It claims the CIGS modules of the company based on its proprietary technology generate 15% higher yields/installed kW than silicon panels

Poland-based copper indium gallium diselenide (CIGS) thin-film solar company Roltec is building a new factory in Poland’s Jerzmanów in Wrocław city. This will be the maiden manufacturing project involving the CIGS technology in the country, said Roltec with 50 MW annual production capacity.

The company initially announced the manufacturing project in 2022, according to local media reports as it targeted 2023-end as the completion timeline. It finally started construction on site at the end of 2024. The factory is now scheduled to enter commercial operations by 2025-end.

In an official statement, Roltec said the site will host large scale production of CIGS modules that the company has been developing in its laboratory and on a pilot line.

“The proprietary technology implemented and constantly improved at Roltec allows for the commercialization of a revolutionary product that will have a significant advantage in every aspect (price, speed and ease of installation, efficiency, warranty, aesthetics) over silicon cells,” it stated.

The manufacturer claims that its CIGS frameless modules will generate 15% higher yields/installed kW compared to silicon panels. The factory will incur an investment worth PLN 250 million ($60 million). According to local media reports, Poland’s Ministry of Development and Technology is supporting Roltec with PLN 3 million subsidy to be paid in 3 parts between 2024 and 2026.

Poland’s state aid scheme worth €1.2 billion for local manufacturing was approved by the European Commission in September 2024 to support manufacturing of renewable energy components in the country including solar panels (see Poland’s State Aid Scheme For RE Component Manufacturing Cleared).
