  • Sembcorp subsidiary Sembcorp Solar Singapore has won a JTC auction for 117 MW DC/80 MW AC solar capacity
  • It calls this the largest award by a public sector agency in Singapore to date
  • It will increase Jurong Island's solar power generation capacity from 25.2 MW to 142.2 MW

Singapore-based energy company Sembcorp Industries has won what it claims is the largest solar power project in the country awarded by a government agency to date, with 117 MW DC/80 MW AC capacity. This capacity, awarded by JTC, will be located on Jurong Island in the form of ground mounted and rooftop PV projects.

Sembcorp's Renewables Business Head for Singapore and Indonesia Jen Tan said, "We are delighted to be awarded this tender by JTC for its largest solar deployment, which is also the largest award by a public sector agency in Singapore to date."

This capacity will cover 60 hectares of interim vacant land and rooftops of 5 JTC buildings, including the Jurong Rock Caverns above-ground facilities and Jurong Island Checkpoint.

Once online, it will increase the total solar power generation capacity on Jurong to 142.2 MW, up from 25.2 MW at present.

The tender will also support solar deployment demand from an additional 12 Jurong Island companies. Through JTC's SolarRoof program facilitated by this tender award, companies can install solar panels on their roofs and open car park spaces with zero upfront capital outlay, added JTC.

JTC said it will also collaborate with the winner of the auction, Sembcorp Solar Singapore, to develop a virtual power plant (VPP) solution for the island to integrate data from distributed energy resources (DERS) such as solar and energy storage systems.

Sembcorp recently announced its energy transition strategy to achieve 25 GW gross installed renewables capacity by 2028 to move its portfolio from brown to green (see Renewable Energy Strategic Plan For Sembcorp).
