  • This increases the company's overall production capacity to 300 MW

US solar manufacturer GAF Energy has commissioned a new solar PV manufacturing facility in Texas to produce solar shingles, expanding its aggregate annual production capacity by 500% to a total of 300 MW. The company claims to have now become the world's largest producer of solar roofing.

This is the company's 2nd manufacturing facility. Its 1st fab is operational since 2021 in San Jose, California.

At this Georgetown factory spread over 450,000 sq. ft., GAF will produce its solar roof product Timberline Solar Energy Shingle (ES). It integrates traditional shingles to create a sleek and attractive look, explains the manufacturer.

GAF says Timberline incorporates the world's 1st nailable solar shingle to create an attractive, durable and reliable solar roof. It needs a nail gun to fix the shingle instead of the usual roofing crews and supplies. GAF had earlier said the panels can withstand winds up to 130 mph and have water shedding properties (see GAF Energy's Solar Energy Shingle Product).

A sister company of the North American roofing and waterproofing company GAF, both GAF and GAF Energy are part of the Standard Industries. In 2021, GAF Energy announced its plans to shift its manufacturing from Asia to San Jose (see GAF Energy To Shift Solar Roof Manufacturing To US).
