  • MEM Solar has started manufacturing of Talesun Solar branded PERC solar modules in Turkey
  • Plans include addition of TOPCon modules in 2024 for an eventual 1.4 GW/year capacity of the fab
  • Modules will initially target the domestic Turkish market and will be shipped to the US once requisite certifications are in place
  • It is currently actively exploring the feasibility to add n-type solar cell production

Industrial equipment supplier MEM Solar has commissioned a new solar module factory in Turkey with an annual nameplate production capacity of 700 MW, to roll out panels under China's Talesun Solar brand. The duo is also actively conducting feasibility studies for n-type PV cell production.

A licenced manufacturer of Talesun under OEM license, MEM says the Kahramanmaras city located fab is the 1st in the country to start manufacturing after Turkey faced the devastating earthquakes in February 2023.

Production started in late-October 2023 with PERC technology to roll out glass-glass and glass-backsheet modules with 540W to 555W of power output. The factory will be ramped up gradually to full capacity once the management transitions it to round-the-clock operations.

MEM's spokesperon told TaiyangNews said that the company has started working on phase II expansion of the factory to achieve a combined capacity of 1.4 GW annually in 2024. The upgrade to TOPCon will introduce modules in the 570W to 580W range.

While the modules produced currently are planned to be sold within Turkey, MEM said it will also target the American market for which it aims to complete the requisite certification process in H2/2024.

"Collaborating with both Talesun Turkey and Talesun Global, we are committed to upholding high-quality and performance standards throughout all our endeavors," said Kalkanci.

This follows the framework agreement the 2 companies signed in November 2022 to cooperate for a module production line with an annual capacity of 1 GW (see China's Talesun Solar Mulling Turkish Solar Manufacturing).
