The Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA) has floated a tender for 500 MW solar power capacity. This power plant ought to come up on a contiguous stretch of land anywhere in Tamil Nadu. The onus of acquiring this land, or getting it on lease, lies on the interested developers. The land should not be less than 1,000 hectares.

Successful parties will be required to plan, finance, develop, execute, operate and maintain the solar power park. At the same time, they will have to create the necessary infrastructure, which includes transmission lines.

The application is available for download on TEDA's website, tender details can be found here. Last date for downloading the application is May 3, 2017, while application can be submitted only by May 5, 2017.

In February 2017, India officially increased its solar park capacity from 20,000 MW to 40,000 MW. As per the new target, the government plans to develop at least 50 solar parks with 500 MW capacity each by 2020 (see India Doubles Solar Park Capacity Target To 40 GW).
