Industrial properties rental service provider KCN Vietnam has announced a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with France's TotalEnergies to have all of its industrial properties in Vietnam to be fitted with rooftop solar panels, representing a total capacity of 45 MW DC.
Under the MoU signed, TotalEnergies will be the exclusive solar energy provider for KCN's rooftops. It will also operate and maintain the systems for 20 years.
KCN says it will provide close to 610,000 m² roof space and 280,000 m² space for solar panel installations. Once all of this 45 MW DC capacity is operational, it is likely to generate 51 GWh annually, bringing down KCN's carbon emissions by 23,390 tons thereby ensuring sustainable industrial practices in the country.
"We strongly believe this partnership will aid our stakeholders and us in the journey towards creating a more sustainable industrial environment in Vietnam," said KCN Vietnam's COO Tran Huynh.
For Vietnam and other Asian markets, TotalEnergies has a joint venture (JV) agreement with Eneos with a mandate to develop 2 GW of onsite B2B solar projects over the next 5 years (see JV For 2 GW Decentralized Solar In Asia).
They recently finalized the JV calling it TotalEnergies Eneos Renewables Distributed Generation Asia Pte Ltd. Its maiden long-term power purchase agreement comprises 34 MW across 9 nations with B2B customers including Air Liquide, PTT Global Chemical and Yanmar Engine.
The KCN / TotalEnergies solar project comes at the same time as renewable energy arm of Italy's Enel, Enel Green Power (EGP) says its Vietnamese subsidiary has accumulated 5.692 GW of renewable energy pipeline comprising 915 MW capacity at an advanced stage and targets to commission its maiden utility scale plant here by 2024 (see Enel Green Power Expands To Vietnam). This is both good news for solar in Vietnam, where the PV sector is still licking its wounds after the government hacked the country's very attractive solar incentive program end of 2020.
