France's TotalEnergies has commissioned its 4th solar power plant in Japan with 51 MW capacity, equipped with around 100,000 high-efficiency solar panels, bringing its total operational PV capacity in the country to 155 MW.
The 51 MW solar power project is located in Tsu, Mie Prefecture with foundations of the project designed factoring in the frequent earthquakes and typhoons the country experiences through the year, it stated.
Haze Solar Power Plant is spread on 77-hectare space and generate enough clean energy to suffice nearly 20,000 households.
It is contracted to supply clean electricity to Chubu Electric Power Miraz, a subsidiary of Chubu Electric, under a 17-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
TotalEnergies' Senior Vice President Renewables, Vincent Stoquart shared that the Haze project was commissioned by the company with its partners Suzuka Group and Tohoku Electric.
Previous 3 PV projects energized by the French company are 27 MW Nanao, 25 MW Miyako and 52 MW Osato solar power plants.
Another European company, Spain's X-Elio has also grid connected 16 MW solar PV capacity in Japan. The Sodegaura Solar PV Plant was built by X-Elio for $55.71 million. It takes the company's total developed solar PV capacity in Japan to 380 MW since 2012.
