  • Turkey has selected 6 companies to build the 800 MW solar PV capacity under YEKA GES-2024 auction

  • Winners will develop this capacity in the 6 provinces of Kütahya, Antalya, Van, Malatya, Karaman, and Karapinar

  • The project developers are required to ensure 75% local content in the panels to be used

Turkey’s Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources has allocated all of the 800 MW solar PV capacity it offered under the country’s latest Renewable Energy Resources Zones or YEKA GES-2024 solar auction launched in November 2024.

It received 146 applications from 67 companies in response to the tender to locate the 800 MW capacity. Of this, it selected 6 projects to be installed in 6 provinces for an average price of $126,000/MW. The winners are:

  • Çumra Güneş Enerjisi Üretim AŞ to develop a 40 MW project in Kütahya for $162,000/MW

  • Erdem Soft Tekstil AŞ will also develop a 40 MW capacity in Antalya for $122,000/MW

  • Chen Güneş Enerjisi LTD was selected for a 60 MW solar power plant in Van province for $270,000/MW

  • The 75 MW project in Malatya will be built by Özerka Energy Electricity Generation for $232,000/MW

  • Temmuz Güneş Enerji Üretim AŞ will build a 200 MW PV plant in Karaman for $150,000/MW

  • Kalyon YEKA SPP 5 Electricity Generation has secured the rights to develop a 385 MW solar project in Karapinar for $67,000/MW

Winners will be able to feed the electricity generated in the national grid for 20 years post completion for $0.0325/kWh.

“We held the tenders with a minimum local content requirement of 75 percent in the module. Therefore, the panels to be used here will be panels produced in Türkiye. In this sense, it will contribute to both industry and green employment,” said the Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar.

He added, “With the tender we held today, we are preventing the import of 300 million cubic meters of natural gas per year and this means 150 million dollars per year. When we consider the 20-year purchase period, it means that we are preventing natural gas imports of over 3 billion dollars.”

The YEKA GES-2024 auction also sought 1.2 GW wind energy capacity as part of the country’s plans to launch 2 GW of renewable energy tenders annually to achieve 120 GW solar and wind energy capacity by 2035 (see Turkey Announces 800 MW Solar Tender For 6 Projects).

Recently, Ember reported Turkey to have expanded its solar capacity from 9.7 GW in July 2022 to exceed 19 GW by the end of 2024, surpassing its 2025 target ahead of schedule (see Türkiye Beats 2025 Solar Target: Ember Report).
