  • A large scale solar power project in Nevada with 690 MW solar power capacity has cleared all decks to start construction
  • Project secured final approval from the US Department of the Interior and BLM
  • It will be accompanied by a 380 MW solar powered battery energy storage system
  • Project to be constructed in 2 phases expected to come online in 2021 and 2022

The US Department of the Interior and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has given the final go ahead to what it calls as the largest solar project in the history of the country. The 690 MW Gemini Solar PV Project has secured approval to be constructed near Las Vegas in Nevada. It will be accompanied by a 380 MW solar-powered battery energy storage system to store and deploy more than 1,400 MWh to be dispatched when required.

Arevia Power and Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners are developing the project through Solar Partners XI, LLC that received Recod of Decision (ROD) from the department. It will now move to construct the '8th largest solar power facility in the world' for an estimated investment of $1 billion. It will create several jobs with as many as 900 workers employed during peak construction period bringing in around $712.5 million to the economy in the form of wages and total output during construction.

The 690 MW facility will be constructed in 2 phases with the first phase expected to come online in 2021 and the second in 2022.

Earlier this year, BLM sought final feedback on the project's environmental impact assessment (see 690 MW Solar Project In US Closer To Securing Approvals).
