Yellow Door Energy will develop a 50 MW rooftop solar project for Foulath Holding in Hidd, Bahrain
The project, part of a 123 MW solar initiative, will use 77,000 panels over 262,000 m2
It will generate 200 million kWh annually, cutting 90,000 MT of carbon emissions
Yellow Door Energy, a solar developer based in Dubai, will develop a 50 MW rooftop solar project in Hidd, Bahrain, for Foulath Holding, the parent company of Bahrain Steel and SULB. Once completed, the installation will be the world’s largest single-site rooftop solar power plant, it claims.
The 50 MW system is part of a broader 123 MW solar initiative that Yellow Door Energy will build as 10 rooftop PV systems and 4 ground-mounted installations. Out of around 190,000 solar panels spread across a 707,000 m2 space, the 50 MW project will comprise 77,000 solar panels installed on a 262,000 m2 stockyard shed.
Once complete, the project will generate 200 million kWh of clean energy within the 1st year of its operation, along with lowering 90,000 MT of carbon emissions. With its investments in the steel business, Foulath Holding sees this capacity contributing to its sustainability objectives, decarbonizing Bahrain’s steel production, and achieving significant cost savings.
Yellow Door Energy will oversee the financing, designing, building, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of the solar project throughout the duration of the power purchase agreement (PPA).
“I think this project proves how cost-competitive, clean energy can drive forward industry and set a new global benchmark for decarbonising steel production,” said Yellow Door Energy’s Managing Director, Head of Middle East and Africa at Actis, Sherif ElKholy.
