The Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) of Zambia has launched the second tender round of the World Bank Group's International Finance Corporation's (IFC) Scaling Solar program in the country. Out of the total 600 MW PV capacity to be auctioned, Round 2 will tender 150 to 250 MW.

Round 1 saw 100 MW being awarded in June 2016 (see Zambia IFC Projects). The remaining capacity of 250 to 350 MW will be tendered in Round 3.

Out of the capacity awarded in Round 1, developer NEOEN S.A.S. from France and module supplier First Solar recently announced signing a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Zambian national utility ZESCO (see Neoen Signs PPA For Zambia Project).

Individual companies as well as consortia are welcome to participate in Round 2. All national and international companies with experience in developing utility scale solar PV can express their interest in the same.

Interested bidders can submit their expressions of interest (EOI) or submit a Request for Pre-Qualification whenever the process is launched. The last date for EOI submission is March 24, 2017. More information on the tender is available on the website of the IDC.

In February 2017, Zambia had announced collaborating with the IFC in the Scaling Solar Program for 500 MW of PV projects (see Zambia's Second Round With Scaling Solar).
