Dr. Dirk Habermann has been announced as the new chief technology officer (CTO) of Germany based ultra-thin, high-efficiency monocrystalline green solar wafer startup NexWafe GmbH that was spun out of German research institute Fraunhofer Institute of Solar Energy Systems (Fraunhofer ISE) in 2015.

"Habermann will be instrumental in accelerating the pace of our wafer development so manufacturers can start building even more efficient photovoltaic cells into their solar panels as part of the global energy transition."

Habermann has been consulting with NexWafe as the head of Switzerland based PV and storage company H2Gemini Technology Consulting GmbH. Previously he was the chief innovation officer and CTO with Meyer Burger Technology AG. Habermann has also worked with Schmid Group and Rena GmbH.

NexWafe has been working on mass production of its EpiNex solar wafer technology for which it raised €10 million in February 2021 from a number of investors including Fraunhofer ISE, Saudi Aramco Energy Ventures, among others (see NexWafe Raises €10 Million For Production Activities).
