Voltalia has announced the appointment of Robert Klein as its new CEO
He will take over from outgoing CEO Sébastien Clerc from January 1, 2025
This will be a promotion for Klein as he currently heads the company’s ALAN business
French renewable energy company Voltalia has announced a change of guard as the company’s long-time chief executive officer (CEO) Sébastien Clerc is stepping down, and Robert Klein appointed the new boss. Klein takes the reins of the company on January 1, 2025.
There was no specific reason given for Clerc’s departure; however, the board thanked him for his contributions and commitment over the last 13 years. Klein’s appointment was agreed upon by the company’s board of directors based on the recommendation of the Compensation Committee.
Klein is being elevated from his current position as the head of Latin America and North Africa (ALAN). He is responsible for launching the company in Brazil, a task for which he was specifically hired in 2006. Today, as the company explained, Brazil accounts for 52% of the company’s total capacity in operation and under construction.
Having begun his career in the oil and gas sector, Klein’s experience spans the entire renewable energy value chain across North America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Persian Gulf.
The company board said it has confidence in Klein's ability to continue development, strengthen profitability, and uphold Voltalia's ambitions and values.
Voltalia’s current operational renewable energy portfolio comprises 3.08 GW in operation and construction. In Q3 2024, the company increased its energy sales by 25%; however, curtailment in Brazil played spoilsport.
By 2027, it targets to expand its operational and under-construction capacity to exceed 5 GW, comprising close to 4.2 GW in operation, and another 8 GW capacity to operate for 3rd party customers.
