  • CFO Benjamin Frank has taken over the position as interim CEO from July 1, 2024
  • Frank worked with SMA Solar Technology for over 15 years before joining Solarwatt in March 2024

Detlef Neuhaus, the long-term chief executive officer (CEO) of Germany's Solarwatt, has left the company he worked with for over 13 years, handing over the reins to Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Benjamin Frank who has been named the interim CEO. The change came into force on July 1, 2024.

In a post on LinkedIn, Neuhaus said, "After almost 14 years, it is time for me to leave Solarwatt and start something new. This time was characterized by strategic reorientation, phases of strong growth and, unfortunately, political decisions. We faced these challenges and courageously developed the company further."

Neuhaus' successor Frank is a new entrant to Solarwatt, having joined the company in March 2024 as the CFO. However, he isn't new to the solar industry as he worked with SMA Solar Technology for more than 15 years before joining Solarwatt.

Soon after Frank's appointment as CFO, in April 2024 Solarwatt announced plans to shut down its 300 MW German solar module production fab by the end of August 2024. The news was followed by reports of the manufacturer shutting down its battery energy storage production fab in Dresden. It may plan to restart the fab if economic conditions improve (see Europe Solar PV News Snippets).

"With his extensive experience in the solar industry and his financial expertise, Mr. Frank will continue on the course we have chosen," said the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Solarwatt, Achim Wörner while announcing Frank's appointment.

Soon after Frank's appointment, the German solar module and battery storage manufacturer announced a new location in Leipzig-Halle, saying it specializes in the consulting, planning and installation of high-quality PV systems and efficient heat pumps. This is its 9th installation location to be followed by more branch openings in Germany this year.
