Solar power projects developer and operator Solarpack has promoted the company's current senior executive José Luis García Pérez to the post of chief executive officer (CEO) for its Latin American business unit.

Pérez has been with Solarpack since 2022 as the company's chief development and construction officer. Before joining Solarpack, he was the CEO of Mexico-based Zuma Energia that's part of China's SPIC. An industry veteran, Pérez has also worked with Iberdrola in the past.

Solarpack is operating in the Latin American markets of Colombia, Peru, Chile and Ecuador with a portfolio of 5.5 GW solar, wind and energy storage projects, with 889 MW contracted. Out of this, 621 MW are either operational or under construction.

Pérez's promotion is done with an intent to strengthen the company's position in this strategic market.

"His experience and knowledge of the local markets and stakeholders allows us to orient our strategy towards the customer and to continue pioneering renewable energy solutions, making a lasting impact on our journey towards a sustainable, resilient and affordable future," said Solarpack CEO Leo Moreno.

According to the Spanish company, this appointment is central to the company's strategy to empower its regional business units to grow strong local partnerships with customers, communities, investors and other stakeholders, while benefiting from the group's balance sheet, benefits of scale and support capabilities.

In line with this strategy, Solarpack announced Sajay K.V. as its India operations CEO in December 2023 (see Spain's Solarpack Announces New India CEO).
