Trafigura & IFM’s RE Joint Venture Appoints New CEO

Geneva, Switzerland based renewable energy company Nala Renewables has got a new leader as the company's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in the form of Jasandra Nyker who brings to the table more than 20 years of experience in renewable energy and clean energy industry. She has assumed her new position from April 1, 2021.

Nyker was previously based out of London where she was the managing director of Denham Capital Management and responsible for investing in and overseeing renewable energy projects in Latin America, South East Asia and Africa. Before that, she worked as the CEO of Africa based independent power producer (IPP) BioTherm Energy with a focus on the development of solar and wind assets. BioTherm Energy was acquired by emerging markets investment fund Actis.

A joint venture between Spanish oil and commodity trading firm Trafigura and Australian institutional fund manager IFM Investors, Nala Renewables was launched in September 2020 to develop a renewable energy portfolio of 2 GW under construction, operational or in late stage development solar, onshore wind and power storage projects globally by 2025.

Recently, the company along with Buckeye Partners announced their decision to jointly acquire majority ownership of Swift Current Energy in the US that touts 1.1 GW of commercially online capacity and has more than 6 GW of solar, wind and energy storage projects (see North America PV Snippets: Clearway, Wells, Morgan, Swift).
