Recently, the China National Photovoltaic Product Quality Inspection Center (CPVT) officially released the H1 2025 empirical report from the Yantai offshore outdoor empirical project. Data collection for the report covered the period from January 4 to June 30, 2025, providing a comprehensive record of the operational performance of China's first deep-sea floating PV Empirical Project. Through the integrated application and comparative analysis of various PV technologies, the project has yielded systematic and well-substantiated findings, offering valuable references for advancing the development of offshore PV projects.

This empirical report presents results comparing two technological routes: Back Contact and TOPCon. The project utilized 10 modules of LONGi Hi-MO 9 featuring HPBC 2.0 technology and 10 TOPCon modules, with specific parameters as follows:

BC Technology Demonstrates Comprehensive Power Generation Advantages

The empirical data clearly demonstrates the outstanding performance of LONGi's Hi-MO 9 modules across various power generation metrics. Regarding per-watt power generation, during the monitoring period from January to June 2025, Hi-MO 9 modules achieved a 1.94% generation gain compared to TOPCon modules. This advantage translates into significant increases in power generation revenue in actual power plant operations.

Hi-MO 9 also performed exceptionally well under low-light conditions. Test data from an overcast and rainy day on February 4, 2025, showed that Hi-MO 9 modules achieved a 0.98% per-watt power generation gain, demonstrating their excellent power generation performance even under insufficient irradiance.

It is Particularly noteworthy that the performance advantage of Hi-MO 9 modules proved consistent across all time periods and irradiance levels. From the early morning at 5:00 to the evening at 17:00, and across all irradiance intervals from 0-1100 W/㎡, Hi-MO 9 modules consistently maintained a stable positive gain over the TOPCon modules.

Superior Temperature Characteristics and Comprehensive Power Output

Operating temperature is a key factor affecting module performance and lifespan. During the empirical period, the average operating temperature of Hi-MO 9 modules was 1.31°C lower than that of the TOPCon modules. Lower operating temperatures imply reduced power degradation and a longer operational lifetime.

In terms of comprehensive power calculation, based on the actual environmental conditions at the Yantai empirical project in Shandong Province, which had a backside reflectivity of 6.73%, the Hi-MO 9 modules achieved a combined front-and-backside power output of 667.05W. This is significantly higher than the TOPCon modules' 648.11W, demonstrating stronger power output capability in real-world application scenarios.

The empirical results indicate that LONGi's HPBC 2.0 technology exhibits significant power generation advantages in offshore scenarios. Its exceptional performance in temperature control, low-light power generation, and operational reliability precisely meets the stringent requirements of offshore PV for high reliability, high power generation efficiency, and low maintenance costs.
