TaiyangNews has published its 5th edition of one of its flagship reports – the combined Market Survey on Backsheets & Encapsulation Materials 2024/25.

The solar module backsheet & encapsulation segment has undergone a whirlwind of change, including a role change. Not long ago, there was a severe short supply of these 2 polymer materials used in solar module assembly, leading to high prices, as was reported in our previous editions of the survey published 2 years ago. Today, the overcapacity situation all along the solar value chain has also influenced the prices of these materials. On the role change itself, given their multi-layer structure, backsheets gained the most traction at the time. But with the declining prominence of backsheets, encapsulation materials are taking center stage.

This is also reflected in this latest edition of the combined TaiyangNews Market Survey on Backsheets & Encapsulation Materials 2024/25. A total of 17 companies responded to the current survey, 3 more than last year. It features data for 184 products, an increase of 52 compared to the 4th edition.

While our surveys typically include most market leaders in these segments, the current overview features 4 new companies. Of these 17 companies, 14 are encapsulation material suppliers, and 11 are backsheet providers, highlighting that many companies supply both backsheets and encapsulation solutions. In total, 8 companies are promoting both product categories. This overlap is understandable, as both backsheets and encapsulation materials are polymers with complementary know-how and functionalities.

As with the previous editions, the current survey continues to provide a comprehensive overview of the latest techno-commercial developments in these 2 critical components of the module BOM. This report also includes a detailed description of products from leading suppliers, offering valuable insights into the evolving backsheet and encapsulation landscape.

As manufacturers focus on enhancing module durability and performance, material selection remains critical. The TaiyangNews Solar Technology Conference India 2025, on April 10-11, will feature a Day 2 session on "Advancing Solar Module Performance and Reliability Through the Right Bill of Materials." InYoung Suh, Director of Business Development, Hangzhou First and Dr. Khushbu Patel, AGM, Business Development ALISHAN GREEN ENERGY,  will discuss innovations in encapsulants and back sheets. Early-bird registrations are on here.
