Pii Energy Launches Plug-In Residential Storage Solution

Unlike the rooftop systems, it can be connected to household power outlets, enabling it to be used as a household appliance

Pii Energy, a New Mexico-based provider of plug-in residential solar-plus-storage solutions, has launched its Edge 2000 plug-in home energy system. It has started pilot deployments across the US states of New Mexico and Utah.  

According to the company, this product is designed as a modular, plug-in system that integrates PV, battery storage, and power conversion on a single platform. The system is based on an architecture that connects through household outlets, unlike conventional rooftop PV installations with permanent mounting structures. The company states that this design allows the system to function like a household appliance rather than a fixed installation. This system combines a PV input of up to 1.2 kW, a battery of up to 2 kWh, and a built-in inverter in an AC-coupled configuration. The company states that it is also a zero-feedback system, which never exports excess solar generation to the grid. 

On the safety side, it features a breaker-masking function that monitors real-time circuit conditions and detects potential overload conditions. This detection might not be possible with conventional protection devices instantly. It also features a 2-way ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI), protecting the system and prosumers from earth leakage or short circuits.  

These complex operations can be continuously monitored and controlled with the Pii energy management app, either on a cell phone or a web-based browser.
