Poland headquartered perovskite solar technology company Saule Technologies claims to have achieved 25.5% power conversion efficiency for its perovskite solar cells in operating conditions for internet of things (IoT) applications.
Fraunhofer ISE's Organic and Perovskite Photovoltaics Department Head Dr. Uli Würfel carried out the measurements to confirm Saule's claim.
The measurements, according to Saule, were carried out under 1000 lux illumination by a cold white LED representing real-life environment for the 1st commercial application of these devices. Management said this makes these cells a 'perfect solution' for IoT applications since these can be deployed to power electronic devices in indoor, low-light intensity conditions, while stressing that the potential of perovskite PV technology stretches well beyond the IoT market.
It sees this technology as a good fit for BIPV, BAPV, e-mobility and other businesses.
Hence, Saule believes these results open up new business opportunities for the company as the IoT market will be worth $1.1 trillion in 2025, according to the company's Co-Founder and CTO Dr. Olga Malinkiewicz.
She added, "Our first factory already prints perovskite devices suitable for the IoT sector. Now, when we have successfully entered the commercialization phase, we are going to scale up our business. It is time to build new factories all over the world, with much higher production throughputs as demand is growing rapidly."
The Polish company opened the world's '1st' perovskite cell manufacturing fab in June 2021, following it up with its maiden commercial installation of perovskite cells as PV blinds, sun breakers for the factory of aluminum producer Aliplast in Lublin in August 2021 (see Saule's Commercial Perovskite Cell Installation).
