At the recently held Intersolar Europe 2025, the TaiyangNews team visited the booth of 3S Swiss Solar Solutions AG, a Switzerland-based company that specializes in the development and production of energy-generating building envelopes with operations in Thun and Worb. 3S provided a brief insight into its latest Swiss-engineered solar tiles designed for Europe’s aesthetically demanding building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) market.

During the event, the company showcased its latest TeraSlate Flair series BIPV modules, which combine color with functionality, based on its proprietary TeraSlate module technology. While technical specifications were limited, the company’s website states that this new product – an evolution of the MegaSlate II – is equipped with G12 half-cell technology, updated module dimensions, and enhanced power output. The module also incorporates several advanced features, including new cell technology, a self-cleaning surface, and hail resistance rated to class HW5.

Product Description

According to the company’s datasheet, the showcased terracotta rust-colored model (TeraSlate Flair - Terracotta Rust - T75), featuring 48 G12 half-cut cells, delivers a power output of up to 165 W, an open-circuit voltage (Voc) of 33.1 V, and a short-circuit current of up to 6.2 A. Rated for a system voltage of 1,000 V DC, this model offers a temperature coefficient (Pmax) of -0.319%/K. Measuring 935 × 1,300 × 6.5 mm (L-Size) and laminated with 5 mm-thick ESG solar glass and a backsheet, the module weighs 17.7 kg, making it well-suited for a variety of European roof types.

In addition to the L-Size, the TeraSlate Flair series is available in Q, M, and S sizes, all with a height of 6.5 mm, and dimensions of 720 × 1,300 mm, 935 × 875 mm, and 720 × 875 mm, respectively.

From a safety perspective, the modules are certified to hail resistance class HW 5, simulating 50 mm diameter hailstones striking at 30.8 m/s. They are also engineered to withstand compressive loads of up to 5,400 N/m² and suction loads of up to 2,400 N/m², following IEC 61215. Additional certifications include IEC 61701 (salt mist corrosion resistance for coastal installations) and IEC 62716 (ammonia corrosion resistance for agricultural environments), ensuring reliability under harsh environmental conditions.

The modules are backed by a 10-year product warranty and a 25-year performance warranty, along with a weather resistance guarantee of up to 40 years.

Furthermore, the company showcased its other TeraSlate series modules, such as TeraSlate (L) (standard modules for roof), TeraSlate Crea (Customized and Full-Surface Solutions), and Overlapping Facade (Fully Integrated 3S Facade System). The company also mentioned that it offers software solutions to plan, implement, and monitor the BIPV system.
