  • Canadian Solar has launched its new solar module with up to 420W output, based on 182mm cell size
  • With a maximum efficiency of 21.5%, the CS6R-MS module uses 54-cell format and is part of the company's HiKu6 series
  • It targets residential, and C&I segments with a 25-year product warranty on materials and workmanship for residential rooftop
  • Canadian Solar will also commercially launch a HJT cell module in April 2022 with up to 440W output

Canadian Solar Inc has launched a new solar module with up to 420W output and efficiency reaching as high as 21.5% based on 182mm cell size, saying the product is now in mass production, while it works on a heterojunction (HJT) module.

An extension of the HiKu6 series, the CS6R-MS module uses 54-cell format is claimed to be lightweight at 21.3 kg with a small module size of 1.95 m² ˣ 30 mm. Available in a silver frame, black frame and all black variant, it is targeted at the residential, commercial and industrial (C&I) segments.

The module incorporates monocrystalline cells and has a 3.2 mm tempered glass with anti-reflective coating.

Canadian Solar, a vertically integrated Chinese module producer headquartered in Canada, is offering 25-year product warranty on materials and workmanship for residential rooftop applications.

Under its HiKu6 182 cell module family, the company already offers various mono-facial and bifacial solar modules with power output ranging between 400W to 670W, including those with 210mm 66-cell and 60-cell, along with 182mm 72-cell and 54-cell configurations. Its 670W PERC solar module features on TaiyangNews' February 2022 list of highest efficient commercial solar modules (see Top Solar Modules Listing – February 2022).

Come April 2022, the manufacturer will start commercial delivery of its N-type HJT cell based module product CS6R which is said to come with a very high module efficiency of up to 22.5% and power output of up to 440W.

"Our new products will further improve the energy yield and reduce the LCOE of residential, commercial, and industrial rooftop solar systems, and meanwhile enable to offset more CO2 emissions," said Canadian Solar's Chairman and CEO Dr. Shawn Qu.

TOPCon and HJT are the latest high-efficiency c-Si cell technologies that module manufacturers everywhere are exploring, something that TaiyangNews covered in December 2021 in its High Efficiency Solar Technologies Conference.

As PERC cells remain the workhorse of today's solar industry, despite the advent of these newer technologies, TaiyangNews will hold a 1-day virtual conference on Pushing PERC Cells to Its Limits — How to Manufacture Highest Efficiency Standard Solar Cells. Registration to the event is free and can be done here.
