  • DNV GL has launched a mobile Solar Lab in India to conduct on-site testing of PV modules
  • It will offer Flash test/I-V curve measurement and electroluminescence (EL) testing on-site, saving time and cost incurred on getting the testing done at a stationary lab
  • DNV GL claims it will be the first mobile PV testing lab in India to use an advanced A+/A+/A rated LED flasher technique to conduct tests with lab-grade accuracy

Independent energy advisory and certification body DNV GL of Norway has launched its first Solar Lab for on-site testing PV modules in India. It will enable solar asset owners to conduct Flash test/I-V curve measurement and electroluminescence (EL) testing for PV module on-site, instead of at stationary labs.

DNV GL believes such a service will save time, reduce cost and minimize risk while also providing cost effective post-delivery-pre-installation and post-installation quality assurance of PV modules.

This on-Site Solar Lab can be transported to project sites anywhere in the country and will be the first mobile PV testing lab in India to use an advanced A+/A+/A rated LED flasher technique to conduct tests with lab-grade accuracy, it claims.

Expecting primary energy consumption of solar PV in India to increase from 0% in 2016 to 24% by 2050, DNV GL's Executive Vice President APAC, Nicolas Renon said, "The on-site Solar Lab will support the demands of the rapidly growing solar market, further empowering developers and financiers to identify secure solar investments and accelerate India's energy transition."

In November 2018, the PV testing lab of TUV Rheinland in India's Bangalore was recognized by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), allowing manufacturers to get TUV Rheinland testing done for their solar PV modules to be able to get a BIS certificate.
