GCL SI’s TOPCon Module Certified For Carbon Footprint

TÜV Rheinland has certified the carbon footprint of the module, along with assessing the capabilities and validating the company’s carbon management system

Vertically integrated PV manufacturer GCL Systems Integration Technology Co., Ltd. (GCL SI) recently received the Product Carbon Footprint Declaration certificate from TÜV Rheinland for its GCL-NT12R /66GDF series module. 

This TOPCon module comprises 132 G12R half-cut cells and is rated for a maximum power output of 630 W and 23.17% efficiency. According to the company, this certification is based on the ISO 14067 international standard, which quantifies the module’s carbon footprint across multiple steps, from raw material procurement, manufacturing, logistics, and transportation to the operational phase and, finally, end-of-life recycling. However, the company’s press release didn’t share the kilogram-equivalent of carbon dioxide (kg CO₂e) values. 

GCL SI added that this certification also assesses and validates its carbon management capabilities, called a ‘Full Life-Cycle Carbon Chain Traceability System’. 

 The company states that it consists of a carbon data management system that covers the entire lifecycle of its modules on a closed-loop feedback model. The carbon can be traced to its origin and is verifiable at any time by monitoring and tracking emissions in manufacturing and downstream applications in real time, it adds. This also supports carbon reduction in a staggered manner. 

GCL SI remarked that ensuring transparency and traceability of a PV product’s carbon footprint will be a ‘green passport’ to enter global markets soon. The company also commits to continuous improvement of its Carbon Chain Traceability System and optimization of product carbon performance.
