  • The >22.5% efficiency band grew from a 15% share in January 2023 to 28% by December 2024, with product count rising from 5 to 15

  • Most of its growth occurred in 2024, particularly in H2, with 4 new products added, increasing the share from 19% to 28%

  • In 2023, the band saw minor fluctuations, ending with 9 products and a 16% share

The TaiyangNews Top Solar Modules Analysis Report 2024 analyzed module efficiency by categorizing them into 4 distinct bands: >22.5%, 22%–22.5%, 21.7%–22%, and 21.5%–21.7%. This approach simplifies analysis across different efficiency ranges. Continuing with the same chronology, the highest efficiency band of >22.5% comes first. As mentioned above, this band nearly doubled its share from 15% to 28% and tripled its product count from 5 to 15. Most of this growth came in 2024, more so in the latter part of the year. H1 2024 saw the band’s share increase by only 1% from 18% to 19%, and the product count by just 1 to 11. During the second half, it saw 2 product additions in July, taking the total to 13 and the share to 23%. Additions of 1 again in each of September and October increased its share to 25% and 28%, respectively, for a final tally of 25 products. This growth was also partly fueled by the reduction of PERC products at the other end of the efficiency spectrum.

High-Efficiency Milestones: The >22.5% efficiency band saw several significant advancements in high-efficiency solar, with AIKO and Maxeon exceeding 24%, HJT surpassing 23% and TOPCon reaching 23%. (Source:TaiyangNews)

In contrast, the share of this efficiency band changed several times in 2023, but not significantly in number. Starting at 15% and 5 products, the share went up slightly to 16% in March with the addition of 1 product and remained so till June. Over the next 2 months, it dropped to 12%, as the total product count of the TOP SOLAR MODULES rose steeply from 38 to 49. It achieved its previous level of 16% again in September, with 2 products added to its basket.
