IBC Technology: Efficiency Leader With Limited Representation In 2024

TaiyangNews TOP SOLAR MODULES Analysis highlights IBC technology’s share, represented by 4 companies in 2024

Shravan Chunduri

  • IBC retained its position as the most efficient cell technology but remained the least represented, with just 4 companies – AIKO, Maxeon, LONGi, and SPIC – throughout the year

  • The number of IBC products stayed constant at 4 in 2024

  • IBC's share started at 9%, peaked at 11% mid-year, and gradually declined to 7% by year's end, with a brief increase to 8% in December due to changes in the overall product count

The latest TaiyangNews TOP SOLAR MODULES Analysis 2024 analyzes the share of different solar cell technologies: IBC, HJT, TOPCon and PERC over the past 2 years. Starting with IBC, the efficiency leader maintained its position but continued to be the least represented among solar technologies. IBC’s limited presence highlights its exclusivity and the handful of companies capable of commercializing it. In 2024, the number of IBC products remained steady at 4 throughout the year. Its share within the TOP SOLAR MODULES listing also stayed at a constant 7%, except in December, when it increased to 8%, primarily due to a reduction in the total number of products in the listing (see Solar Cell Technology Trends In 2024).

Throughout 2024, the IBC segment was represented by the same 4 companies – AIKO, Maxeon, LONGi, and SPIC – with no further changes after AIKO's entry in March 2023. However, its share fluctuated significantly, starting at 9% in the first 2 months, rising to 11% for the subsequent 4 months, and then declining in the second half of the year – dropping by 1% each quarter to 8% and eventually 7%.
