Chinese solar PV backsheet and monocrystalline n-type bifacial solar cell and module maker Jolywood (Suzhou) Sunwatt Co. Ltd. has launched a new transparent mesh backsheet, through its subsidiary Jolywood (Taizhou) Solar Technology Co. Ltd. The new product was developed together with DuPont, which has introduced a transparent Tedlar film during the SNEC 2018 trade show in May.
The transparent mesh backsheet has an additional reflective mesh on the blank areas between the solar cells in modules that, it said, leads to increasing power of the module by 5 to 6 W. It also helps better protect the inner layer of the backsheet, Jolywood said.
Jolywood Chairman Lin Jianwei said the new transparent mesh backsheet is lightweight, breathable and has high light transmittance, giving it an edge to be used with bifacial modules. Jolywood says these backsheets are certified by TUV Rheinland.
Speaking with TaiyangNews for our June published Bifacial Solar Technology Report 2018, DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions' Global Marketing Manager Mark Ma said that his company was working with laminators to develop a transparent backsheet to offer a better solution than current glass-glass structures for bifacial modules. At the time, Ma said that Jolywood will be the first one to launch the transparent product commercially (see No Need To Change A Winning Team).
