  • LONGi Green Energy Technology has revealed 2 new world records for its HJT cells, both certified by Germany's ISFH
  • For p-type HJT cell, it has achieved efficiency of 26.56% while for indium-free HJT cell the new efficiency reached is 26.09%
  • LONGi says indium-free HJT cells can provide a feasible solution for these cells to move towards TW-scale mass production

The world's largest wafer manufacturer for the solar industry, and cell and module maker LONGi Green Energy Technology has once again announced new world records, this time achieving 26.56% efficiency for its p-type heterojunction (HJT) and 26.09% for indium-free HJT cells.

The Chinese company said it achieved these efficiencies using its own M6 full-size monocrystalline gallium doped silicon wafers and self-developed 'mass production technology.' This, it says, further consolidates the foundation of industrialization of low-cost HJT cells.

It has reported an increase of 0.44% in p-type efficiency of 26.56% from 26.12% reached in September 2022 (see 26.12% Efficiency For P-Type HJT Solar Cell).

The indium-free cell HJT efficiency of 26.09% was achieved by LONGi after replacing traditional indium-based transparent conductive film with 'abundant, cheap, safe and environment friendly film materials'. (Source: LONGi Green Energy Technology)

For the indium-free cell HJT efficiency of 26.09%, LONGi said it replaced traditional indium-based transparent conductive film with 'abundant, cheap, safe and environment friendly film materials' without giving many details.

"The successful research and development of high-efficiency indium-free HJT cells can effectively get rid of the dependence of large-scale mass production on indium resources, alleviate the industry's concerns about insufficient indium reserves, and provide a feasible solution for HJT cells to move towards TW-scale mass production," stated LONGi.

Germany's Institut für Solarenergieforschung GmbH (ISFH) has certified both these records of LONGi.

The development comes soon after the company created history by breaking 5-year-old world record silicon solar cell efficiency of Kaneka with its 26.81% efficient back contact cell (see LONGi Breaks Long-Time Silicon Solar Cell Record).

The company's Founder and President Li Zhenguo and Vice President, Central R&D Institute Dr. Xu Xixiang discussed the world record efficiency with TaiyangNews Managing Director Michael Schmela in an exclusive interview on day 3 of our High Efficiency Solar Technologies Conference (see Positive Outlook On Solar Demand & Technology Developments At TaiyangNews Event).

LONGi counts having broken the world record for cell conversion efficiency 12 times since April 2021 for n-type TOPCon, p-type TOPCon, n-type HJT cell, p-type HJT cell and indium-free HJT cell.
