Megasol Energie Ltd., a Switzerland-based building-integrated-photovoltaic (BIPV) solution and PV module maker, has launched LEVEL Up, a redesigned system for roof-integrated PV applications.
This system is an evolution of Megasol’s earlier LEVEL platform, designed to improve PV integration on pitched roofs, challenging roof shapes, and building façades. It enables full-surface PV coverage, replacing traditional roof materials such as tiles or slate. According to the company, the system creates a consistent surface that closely aligns with the building envelope using frameless glass-glass modules. The modules are engineered to generate over 200 W/m², enhancing energy output compared with standard rooftop solutions. It adds that they are also lighter than their predecessors and require fewer mounting components, simplifying installation and reducing labor turnaround time.
The company has revised its rail-type mounting design, including transition rails (for connection to the rest of the roof and to the ridge) and eaves rails (to provide ‘perfect’ mounting), allowing faster module installation and more efficient cable routing. Megasol claims that a skilled installer can install approximately 12 m² per hour. LEVEL Up is adaptable to different environmental conditions, from mountainous regions with heavy snow loads to areas exposed to hail. The system is promoted for high-altitude locations, supporting snow loads that can exceed 4 m of accumulation and rated for hailstones up to 50 mm in diameter.
The company notes that a set of accessories allows for customized installation depending on the roof type and safety requirements. Snow guards and stoppers help prevent shadowing, while the lightning protection hooks ensure compliance with electrical standards, and anchorage devices support the use of personal protective equipment, enabling certain tasks to be done without scaffolding. The system also accommodates roof windows, making it suitable for a variety of building designs.
Unlike standard PV modules mounted at an angle on rooftops, LEVEL Up integrates more seamlessly into the structure, offering a uniform surface while maintaining technical performance, says Megasol. This system offers a combination of module sizes with varied cell configurations: 8 × 9, 4 × 9, 8 × 3, and 4 × 3.
LEVEL Up is now commercially available.
