  • SCOTRA promoted its latest polyethylene (PE) based floater during Intersolar Europe 2025

  • This floater, featuring a compartmentalized design, can exert an upward buoyancy force of up to 330 kg

  • The recyclability of the floater’s PE material makes it a sustainable product

Targeting Europe’s promising floating PV (FPV) markets, South Korea-based FPV solutions provider SCOTRA exhibited its latest offerings during Intersolar Europe 2025. The company highlighted its latest floater at the event.

This product, which offers buoyancy support and acts as a base platform for the installed PV modules and mounting rails or brackets, features a polyethylene (PE) based bulkhead structure that has 6 independent compartments without fillers. According to the datasheet, the floater weighs 24.25 kg. Sized at 1,000 × 700 × 600 mm (L × W × H), its maximum volume of water displacement can exert an upward buoyancy force of up to 330 kg. This implies that without sinking, it can support its own weight (24.25 kg), as well as the additional weight of installed components (e.g., PV modules, structures, cables) of up to 305 kg. According to the company, its compartmentalized design helps maintain the consistency of buoyancy, even if partially damaged. It further claims that this structure reduces potential wear and tear resulting from stresses induced by periodic wave action, compared to its traditional counterpart.

In addition, this floater’s PE material can be recycled after the end of its operational lifespan. This makes it a sustainable product, stated SCOTRA.
