The Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS) has joined hands with China based Guangzhou Ruxing Technology Development Co., Ltd., to develop commercial metallisation pastes that will enable over 24% efficiency for low-cost mass production monoPoly solar cells.
Ruxing manufactures metallisation pastes for PV products. Under the collaboration agreement, SERIS will use the Chinese company's technical expertise for its monoPoly passivated-contact solar cell technology platform for mass production that it has been developing with industry partners. Average solar cell efficiency ranges from 23.0% to 23.5% and 60-cell module power above 330 W.
Now, with Ruxing's help, it wants to increase average efficiency of these cells to a range of 23.5% to 24.0%, with module power of over 345 W.
SERIS expects 3 GW of monoPoly production capacity installation in 2019 as it considers this technology platform a low-cost option to enhance PERC production line performance. It requires only one tool upgrade for most PERC production lines. These cells also produce superior cell and module power and better tolerance to PID and LID compared to PERC solar cells, it claims.
"Having the right industry partners has been critical in enabling the rapid commercialisation of our monoPoly technology, so we are very pleased to add Ruxing Technology, a market and technology leader, as a strategic metallisation paste partner to accelerate both technical improvements and industrial implementation of this game-changing technology," said Dr Shubham Duttagupta, Deputy Director of SERIS' Silicon Materials and Cells Cluster.
