A large, fully blossomed black flower drew the attention of many visitors at this year’s Intersolar Europe exhibition. This flower-like structure was none other than the SmartFlower Solar product, an innovative solar product from the Boston-based company. Combining aesthetic appeal with functional performance, it caters to commercial, institutional, and residential customers seeking iconic design, high efficiency, and easy installation.

In a one-on-one conversation with TaiyangNews, Matthew Downing, Social Media and Marketing Specialist at SmartFlower Solar, provided a brief overview of the featured SmartFlower product. This unique product stands out for its combination of aesthetic appeal and functional performance.

Aesthetic Appeal

Fueled by advanced automation and robotics, this solar product features identical solar petals that open like a fully blossomed sunflower at sunrise, mimicking the movement of a real flower. Standing over a pyramid-style column, which is also available in 2 colors of your choice, this product exhibits an attractive sculptural design.

Functional Performance

On the operational front, this system, equipped with a dual-axis tracker system, follows the Sun across the sky throughout the day, always maintaining the optimal 90° angle to the sun. This system, featuring a cumulative PV capacity of 2.5 kWp, can deliver an annual energy output in the range of between 4,000 kWh and 6,500 kWh, depending on the installation location, says the company's datasheet.

Regarding the safety, this system is engineered to have a wide range of operational temperature range of between -20°C and 55°C. However, to address the critical safety concern related to extremely high wind events, like hurricanes or tornadoes, it is integrated with 2 safety positions – 1 for speeds of more than 48 km/h, while the 2nd position is for above 64 km/h, according to the company datasheet. Following the extreme wind events, this system returns to its fully operational phase and opens up all solar petals.

The company offers up to 2 years of system warranty, while the integrated PV modules come with a performance warranty for up to 25 years.
