Leading Chinese PV inverter and energy storage solution provider Sungrow exhibited a comprehensive range of string inverters and battery storage solutions at the REI Expo 2024. The company currently has a global annual production capacity of 330 GW, including 25 GW outside of China.

In a one-on-one conversation with TaiyangNews, Varun Haritash, Senior Manager – Marketing at Sungrow, provided a brief overview of the company’s operations in India while showcasing its products at the show.

Venturing into the Indian market in 2014, the company has shipped 30 GW of products to date. Having started its manufacturing operations in India with a 3 GW factory in 2018, Sungrow India expanded its annual capacity to up to 10 GW by 2021. The company says that in alignment with the Indian Prime Minister’s vision of achieving 500 GW renewable energy (RE) capacity by 2030, they are providing a wide array of inverters, including residential, commercial & Industrial (C&I), and utility. In addition, the company is also exploring hydrogen energy solutions for the Indian market.

Products

Residential application

On the new products side, the company highlighted 3 brand-new models at the show – the S2000S-SA series microinverter, the SGXXRS-L series 1-phase inverter, and the SG10RT-P2 series 3-phase inverter for the residential segment. The S2000S-SA microinverter model, featuring better heat resistance for improved power generation, can deliver up to 2 kW AC output power. Its integrated module level IV scanning capability can facilitate accurate module health diagnosis and efficient maintenance, added the company.

Apart from the module-level microinverter, the company showcased its latest SGXXRS-L series 1-phase string inverter, available in a wide power range of 3.3 kW to 6.0 kW. This inverter, equipped with an MPPT channel and a voltage range of 40 V to 560 V, ensures early startup and longer power generation. According to the company datasheet, this inverter’s in-built type-II DC and type-II AC surge protection device (SPD) can mitigate the risk of external lightning. Additionally, its integrated PID zero feature ensures optimal PV module performance by mitigating the risk of PID degradation of connected PV strings.

Sungrow promoted the SG10RT-P2 series 3-phase string inverter for residential consumers of up to a load of 10 kW. Available in 7 different power classes from 5 kW to 20 kW, this inverter can be suitable for different categories of residential loads. For early wakeup of the inverter and longer power generation, this model is equipped with an MPPT channel with a voltage range between 160 V and 1,000 V. This inverter is IP65 and C5 anti-corrosion resistant certified, making it suitable for outdoor installations in harsh environmental conditions.

C&I application

On the commercial & industrial (C&I) front, Sungrow introduced the SG150CX series 3-phase string inverter, featuring AC output power of up to 150 kW. This inverter, equipped with 7 MPPTs each with up to 48 A DC current carrying capacity, can cater to high-capacity large format modules for C&I rooftop PV applications. Acknowledging the importance of safety and security of the large-scale C&I rooftop PV arrays, Sungrow has incorporated multiple safety features, including AFCI 3.0, intelligent DC arc interrupter, active fault identification, intelligent string-level protection switch, and AC/DC terminal temperature monitoring. The company also mentioned that its AFCI 3.0 and intelligent DC arc interrupter feature 450 meters of active length for detecting any potential fire or arc formation on the connected PV array. This commercially available model works on the self-cleaning air-duct principle, says Sungrow.

Battery Energy Storage Solution (BESS)

The company also displayed its liquid-cooled PowerTitan 2.0 ST5015UX series ESS platform in combination with a power conditioning unit (PCS) to cater to India’s emerging energy storage requirements.
