  • Tigo unveiled its latest energy storage solution, developed for the Puerto Rico market, at Energy 2025

  • This solution supports surge power of up to 18 kW during a grid outage or failure

  • The company has expanded its customer support services in collaboration with a local installer

During the Energy 2025 tradeshow, Tigo Energy, a manufacturer of module-level power electronics (MLPE) and solar plus storage products, launched its Go Optimized Energy Storage System (ESS), aimed at the Puerto Rico market.

This ESS combines a battery unit, a hybrid inverter, an automatic transfer switch (ATS), and Tigo module optimizers in a single platform. The battery unit, which the company calls ‘Go battery’, has 2 key features – energy density and the capability to support high surge power backup during grid outages. It is equipped with vertically stacked 5 battery packs, each with a storage capacity of up to 5 kWh, inside an enclosure with dimensions of 688.34 × 185.42 × 294.64 mm (W × D × H). The total storage capacity per enclosure, thus, reaches up to 30 kWh. Characterized as ‘high density’ by the company, this battery bank delivers up to 11.4 kW continuous backup for up to 2.63 hours at nominal discharge rate during a grid outage or failure. Additionally, it supports up to 18 kW of surge power to cater to emergency connected loads, albeit only for 60 seconds. Moreover, the integrated battery management unit (BMU) automates and streamlines different functionalities, such as net metering by enabling forced discharge.

Tigo added that this ESS can be charged with solar, grid, and diesel generator (DG), together or in combinations of either. The timeline for its commercialization in this island nation is not yet publicly available.

In addition to launching a new product, the company announced the expansion of customer support in partnership with RR^2 Electrical & Engineering Solutions, a local installation company. Tigo also provides local installers with a ‘comprehensive’ solar plus storage curriculum in Spanish.

Chief growth and revenue officer at Tigo Energy, Jing Tian, said, “Installers in Puerto Rico are embracing Tigo products with ever more enthusiasm, with battery product attach rates on the island averaging two units per site.” He added, “Our response to being embraced by these installers is expanding our battery offering, improving system production through optimization, and taking our customer support infrastructure to the next level.”
