In H1 2025, TOPCon listed 20 products each month, representing 40% share through May and 39% in June
In 2024, the module count grew from 18 to 20 products by March, while the share increased from 33% in January to 38% by the end of the year
In 2023, the number of TOPCon products expanded from 8 in January to 18 by October, lifting its share from 24% to 33%
In the TaiyangNews TOP SOLAR MODULES Analysis H1-2025, the development of high-efficiency modules is examined not only by efficiency bands but also by cell technologies. While band analysis shows the general range of efficiencies, a technology-based view captures the distinct trajectories of each architecture. Following earlier reviews of BC and HJT, the current article shifts the focus to TOPCon (see Technology Shares in Solar Module Efficiencies).
TOPCon technology continued to outperform all other technology streams in terms of growth and product representation. In the first half of 2025, TOPCon maintained a consistent product count of 20 from January through June. The share remained steady at 40% for the first 5 months before dipping slightly to 39% in June due to an increase in the total number of products. Notably, although TOPCon products saw efficiency improvements on 3 separate occasions – in March, May, and June – these developments were reflected only in the efficiency values, not in the number of listed products.
In January 2024, the TOP SOLAR MODULES listing consisted of 18 TOPCon-based products with a 33% share. Qcells re-entered the list in February, increasing the total number of products to 19 and the share to 34%. This was followed by another addition in March, with Türkiye’s Kalyon PV entering the listing for the first time, taking the product count to 20 and the share to 35%. While there were no further additions in this technology stream for the remainder of the year, it ended with an even higher share of 38% by the end of the year, due to a decrease in the total number of listed products starting in July (see Technology Shares In Solar Module Efficiencies).
In 2023, the count of TOPCon modules started at 8 with a share of 24%. The first change occurred in March when Tongwei Solar and Canadian Solar began offering their TOPCon modules commercially, raising the relative share to 27%. In June, Qcells’ product was removed from the list due to an unavailable datasheet, but the total product count remained unchanged as DMEGC Solar’s product made up for the count in the same month. July saw the addition of five more modules from Qn-SOLAR, Suntech, GCL SI, Runergy, and SolarSpace. This was followed by URECO in August, and Yingli and CECEP in October, bringing the total product count to 18 and the share to 33%. Both the product count and the relative share remained unchanged for the rest of 2023, closing the year with 18 products and a 33% share.
